Who we are

Sarvane is a self-drive hire company working out of Salford. There is no forecourt and no counter — we deliver, which means the car comes to you and goes back from wherever suits on the day. The whole thing is small on purpose: a short fleet, a handful of people, and an arrangement with an independent garage nearby that has known the car since we bought it.

Why one car, and why this one

A hire firm with forty cars knows forty cars a little. We wanted to know one properly: where it is good, where it is not, what fails first, and what to tell someone before they drive away. The Moskvich 5 turned out to be a sensible choice for that. It is a mainstream compact crossover underneath, it is automatic, and there is nothing exotic in it to go wrong in a hire fleet.

Specialising also means we can be straight about the car's weak points. We have written them down in our list of the Moskvich 5's pros and cons, including the gearbox behaviour that some drivers never warm to. We would rather someone booked with clear expectations than be disappointed on day two.

How we work

• Written quote before anything is committed, with the full total on it
• Nothing added at handover that was not on that quote
• Free delivery and collection inside the M60; outside it, quoted in advance
• Serviced to schedule, valeted between every hire
• We say no when the car is booked rather than taking the money and hoping

What we will not claim

We are not going to put a star rating or a customer count on this page. We have been doing this for a modest number of years with a small number of cars, and the honest measure of whether it works is the handover itself. If you want to test that, ask us about your dates.
